Olayemi Zainab Oduola, a native of Ibadan, is a seasoned expert in the field of counselling. She earned her first Degree from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Nigeria, and her M.Ed. in Remedial & Reformatory Psychology from the University of Ibadan. She is a Certified member of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON); a member of the International Association for Counselling (IAC), Affiliate member of the International Association of Counsellors & Therapists (IACT). She lectures at the Federal University of Health Sciences, lla Orangun, Osun State, and was a former Principal at Front Model School, Ibadan, Nigeria. She holds a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology. Her research works, particularly in Positive Psychology and Adolescence Psychology, have further solidified her expertise. Her research interests are counselling psychology, career counselling, school counselling, remedial/reformatory psychology, positive psychology and adolescent psychology. She is a teen coach and youth-friendly.

Investigations on the mechanisms of blood pressure (BP) regulation in rats with different types of experimental hypertension. In order to generate empirical data that can be subjected to clinical trials this will help to provide new alternatives for the clinical management of hypertension. As a neuroscientist that has focus on pain and inflammation, i have quite an interest in research deciphering the mechanisms of pain and inflammation. Studying pain and inflammation helps to understand how the nervous system processes and perceives pain, how it becomes sensitized during injury or disease, and how inflammation can either protect or worsen pain. By investigating these processes, neuroscientists aim to develop better treatments for chronic pain, inflammatory disorders, and neurological diseases where pain and inflammation are significant symptoms, such as arthritis, migraines, and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Understanding this relationship is key for developing targeted therapies to alleviate pain and manage inflammation more effectively.

I am currently working on malaria. I am using five (5) plants so as to check the synergistic activities of these plants on malaria induced mice with Plasmodium berghei. The phytochemical components of these plants will also be checked. The dosage to be used will be checked by carrying out acute toxicity of the plants.

My research focuses on conversion of waste materials into biofuels or renewable energy resources using microorganisms to hydrolyse wastes such as agro-wastes and the subsequent conversion of these wastes to biofuels such as bioethanol through fermentation processes. The conversion of wastes into biofuels can go a long way in solving problems relating to energy generation, development of alternative energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing environmental pollution.

My research interest is evolution of bacterial pathogens, their origin, transmission, and adaptation to selective pressure. I use whole genome sequencing to address the routes of spread of many human and animal pathogens. In the local population, I aim to address bacterial adaption to human and animal hosts, antibiotics, and vaccine exposure. The hope is to understand how bacterial genome-wide association approaches can lead to the identification of genetic determinants responsible for bacterial adaptation to the host environment. My research interest seeks to be translational; to enable this, I am presently working with local hospitals, and national and international agencies.

I am interested in zoonosis and presently working two separate researches focused on Rabies and Tuberculosis. Being a One Health advocate and implementer, I am also interested in neglected tropical diseases and vector borne diseases especially as it concerns mosquitoes, ticks and snails. My research focuses on the clinico-laboratory investigation of Candida albicans and Entamoeba gingivalis in the oral cavity of HIV patients. This study aims to explore the prevalence, pathogenicity, and interactions of these microorganisms in immunocompromised individuals, providing insights into their role in oral infections. The findings aim to contribute to the understanding of opportunistic infections and improve strategies for managing oral health in HIV patients.

Pathogenic bacteria are man's problem on earth. Today most of the known infections related to bacteria have developed resistance and this behavior of resistance to known antibiotics is a big problem. Again, in under developed or in developing countries, pathogenic bacteria have been devastating them due to so many reasons like lack of research development, poor research facilities, poverty etc. Hence, my research interest is on these infectious bacteria and a way out.

TITLE: EVIDENCE OF EXPOSURE TO AND HUMORAL IMMUNE RESPONSE AGAINST HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS AMONG MALES AND FEMALES IN OSUN STATE, Summary: Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are double stranded DNA naked viruses that have tropism for epithelial and mucosal cells of humans. There are over 200 genotypes of HPVs, but while the low-risk types (such as HPV -6 and -11) cause benign tumors of head and neck; the high-risk types (like HPV -16 and -18) cause cervical cancer in women and genital warts in both genders. In Nigeria, HPV-induced cervical cancer ranks the second most frequent cancer among women with high morbidity/mortality. It is hence desirable to know the current prevalence rates of low- and high-risk HPV infections among sexually active humans (males and females) attending Osun state University teaching hospital.

My research interests are centered around the mathematical modeling of physical and biological systems, with a particular emphasis on the epidemiology of malaria. I aim to develop and analyze models that can predict the transmission dynamics of malaria, assessing how various factors—such as environmental changes, human behavior, and public health interventions—influence the spread of this disease. The topic of the research is “feature selection and classification of diabetes types using machine learning models”.The main aim of the study is to develop machine learning based prediction models for diabetic patients and to identify which machine learning algorithm has the ability to accurately and precisely classify diabetes types. Machine learning techniques was applied to classify diabetes types into “Type 1” or “Type 2” using a secondary dataset collected from Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta. The results showed that Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) was the best-performing algorithm followed by Bayesian Generalized Linear Model. While the most important variables are ‘Age’, ‘Plasma Glucose’, ‘Diastolic BP’, ‘Height’, ‘Weight’, ‘BMI’ and ‘Diabetic pedigree’. Conclusions from the research showed that machine learning algorithms can be used to make an early diagnosis of diabetes.
